7 Worship Songs For Intercession (Praying For The World)
Intercession is the act of standing in the gap. It is when the church stops looking at its own needs and starts looking at the needs of the city, the nation, and the world. 2 Chronicles 7:14 promises that if God’s people pray, He will “heal their land.”
Worship songs for intercession are weaponized prayers. They are declarations of God’s authority over darkness, addiction, and chaos. These songs help the congregation shift from “singing” to “warring” in the Spirit.
Why These Songs Change The World
We selected these songs because:
- They are expansive. They speak of “all the earth,” “nations,” and “every heart.”
- They are authoritative. They name the things we are praying against (fear, darkness) and the One we are praying to.
- They are prophetic. They sing the future reality of God’s kingdom into the present brokenness.
7 Songs To Pray With Power
- I Speak Jesus – “I just want to speak the Name of Jesus over every heart and every mind.” This is the ultimate intercession song. It explicitly names the targets of our prayer—addiction, depression, anxiety—and speaks the name of Jesus over them like a blanket of peace.
- The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours) – “Let Your Kingdom come.” Jesus gave us the template for intercession. This modern adaptation by Matt Maher allows the church to sing the perfect prayer, asking for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- Way Maker – “Way maker, miracle worker.” When looking at global crises, we often feel helpless. This song reminds us that God is working even when we don’t see it. It is a declaration of trust in His invisible hand moving among the nations.
- Battle Belongs – “When I fight, I’ll fight on my knees.” Prayer is not a retreat; it is a battle strategy. This song reframes prayer as the primary weapon of the church, reminding us that the victory depends on God, not our strength.
- Great Are You Lord – “All the earth will shout Your praise.” The goal of intercession is global worship. This song looks forward to the day when “dry bones” come to life and the whole planet joins in the song of the redeemed.
- Light Of The World (Sing Hallelujah) – “Light of the World, treasure of Heaven.” In a dark world, we pray for light. This song focuses on the beauty of Jesus illuminating the darkness, making it a perfect prayer for Christmas or times of heavy news cycles.
- All Hail King Jesus – “Throughout the earth we sing Your praises.” Intercession ends in coronation. This song asserts the Lordship of Jesus over every other power and authority, placing Him rightly on the throne of the world.

How To Use These Songs In Your Church
- The “Open Mic” Prayer. During the bridge of I Speak Jesus (“Shout Jesus from the mountains”), invite people to shout out the names of schools, hospitals, or neighborhoods they want to cover in prayer.
- Kneeling posture. Battle Belongs says, “I fight on my knees.” Literally invite the church to kneel for this song. It changes the physical dynamics of the room and signals humility.
- Pray the news. Before singing Way Maker, briefly mention a specific crisis in the news (a hurricane, a war, a tragedy). Anchor the song in reality so people know what they are singing about.
Next Steps
Prayer is the engine of the church. This Sunday, use The Lord’s Prayer to unite your congregation in the most powerful petition ever prayed: “Your Kingdom Come.”
